Kalymnos (Κάλυμνος) is a Greek island in the southeastern Aegean Sea close to Kos. Since the late 1990s Kalymnos is being developed as climbing area and is since then drawing people from all over the world. This widely known climbing mecca with it's steep tufa packed lime stone walls and grottos ranging from a vivid red to a dark grey is embedded in a barren Mediterranean landscape characterised by wide fields of wild thyme, oregano and salvia feeding goats and bees that are a common sight on the approaches.
What strikes the most is the enormous companionship between climbers. Empowering, supporting and cheering each other. But also fighting the pump and taping up fingers. And in the end grabbing food and drinks at one of the restaurants, bars and cafes which are serving local specialities.
